I read an article not too long ago, it was all around web 2.0 moms, and how it takes a village or an online village to raise a family.Although I am online more than I am not typically, I have issues with this thought.

Here is why I have issues:

As moms, its our job to watch over our children and to lean on our friends, neighbors, Visiting Teachers, and Home Teachers.

Relying on people we only know online, we risk alienating those around us who know us in person and who can do more than just help us in cyber world.

If we rely completely on our online friends, we may be teaching our children to do the same.

There is good and bad to the internet, and if we lose sight of what we are doing we may be teaching our children the wrong things.

Okay, now for why I like the idea of moms connecting online:

Sometimes we just need a friend, and we don’t always have one nearby.

The internet is a great place to find information, to learn and to find friends.

The internet is also a great place for moms to find avenues to express themselves, whether it is to blog, to sell, to work from home, etc.

By knowing how the internet works, how to navigate it, and what the good and bad is and how to make sure our kids are able to avoid the bad online, we can avoid the bad and focus on the good.

Now days, people don’t stay in neighborhoods as long as they used to, some areas are a little different, but, the majority of people just don’t stay in one place for very long. Many women feel alone, and don’t have the support they need. I understand this, and so do many other women. There are LDS women’s sites where you can go to talk and socialize and know that you are talking to other women who have the same values as you do.

You can read more about the story on MSNBC.
