As of late, we have heard more and more counsel on being prepared. My friends have also had the feeling that they should be storing food. Some have mentioned that they knew the counsel, but, the feeling was stronger than just hearing the counsel. What does this mean for us? Is the time coming soon when we will greatly need that to sustain life? Maybe, maybe it won’t be for us, but for someone else who may need it.

We don’t know what the Lord has planned, any more than we know the exact detailed plans of Satan. But, If we are prepared, we shall not fear. The purpose of Food Storage and our Heavenly Father’s desire is to provide for our needs as we walk in . He has lovingly commanded us to “prepare every needful thing” (see D&C 109:8) so that, should adversity come, we may care for ourselves and our neighbors and support bishops as they care for others.

Come, ye thankful people, come;
Raise the song of harvest home.
All is safely gathered in
Ere the winter storms begin.
God, our Maker, doth provide
For our wants to be supplied.
Come to God’s own temple, come;
Raise the song of harvest home.
Hymns, no. 94

Church members worldwide have been counseled to prepare for adversity
in life by having a basic supply of food and water and some money in
savings.

We have also been asked to be wise as we store food and water and build our savings. Do not go to extremes; it is not prudent, for example, to go into debt to establish your food storage all at once. With careful planning, you can, over time, establish a home storage supply and a financial reserve.

Not all of us are able to store large amounts of food, some of you may not have financial resources or space for such storage. (One hint: I have heard of some people who put their food storage under their beds, when they didn’t have the space needed.)

Some of you may be prohibited by law from storing large amounts of food. We have been encouraged to store as much as circumstances allow. The First Presidency has promised that we would be blessed for our efforts, the Lord has promised us blessings for our effort.

May the Lord bless you in your home storage efforts.
