As you know if you read yesterday’s post, we got a package in the mail full of the most adorable finger puppets, a blanket, a book, and a little suit case for the to all be held in. I am not sure how well I will be able to say this and have you get the full effect, but here goes!
Our youngest is hard of hearing, so much so that she is able to pick up some sounds with her hearing aid, but only in one ear. We are completely grateful for it too! Because of her hearing loss, she over compensates in other areas, which is a discussion for another day, but, visually, and physically touching are ways that she uses to channel the information that she needs.
When I brought out the blue suitcase and opened it up for her to look at, she instantly pulled it to her and said MINE! We read the book and played with the finger puppets, and got her in bead…was it perfect? no, it never is with her, but, we were starting a routine. The next morning, after we got her ready for the van to pick her up and take her to school, she grabbed the suit case and headed to the front door. I took it back hoping that she wouldn’t notice, and leave it at home. Fat chance! I asked the van driver, who I didn’t think would care too much, since it would keep her busy and from getting out of her car seat on the hour long drive. I did kind of worry about what her teacher might think, although I wasn’t too crazily worried, but, still just enough.
After school, she got off the van with her back pack and her Rascals & Routines suit case, so proud and excited! The van driver said it kept her entertained the whole drive down and back, and that she had been really careful of it. I was still a bit worried about what her teacher may have thought, but, we see her on Thursday, so we will ask then!
As for the Rascals & Routines suit case and who it belongs to, I had told all the kids that it was for the whole family to share, but, to be quite honest, she loves it so much that she is the only one that plays with it. She won’t let the other kids do much with it, not even her dad is allowed to play with it. I laugh each time I think about it, because there are only a few things that she likes enough to be so careful with and so possesive.
If you haven’t gone to the Rascals & Routines website you really need to! This is one of the best toys our kids have ever had, and it teaches and reinforces such good behavior. This is a work in progress for us, but, from the initial reaction from my kids, I am sure that once we develop good bedtime habits, we will look back fondly on how much Rascals & Routines made it more enjoyable!
If you purchase because of my review, you can get $5 off! This is actually a great gift for grandparents and teachers too!
