As many of you know, I actively seek out new LDS websites. I love to see what others are doing and what they have been able to accomplish. I also like to see us as a faith having places to go that are uplifting and edifying…or just downright FUN!
I recently found (via Twitter) Overheard In the Ward. I instantly went to the site and started reading the hilarious things that are said and submitted! I like to interview my favorite sites and find out more about them and what they are up to! Nosey? Uh, maybe, but then we all get to have valuable resources for our next talk too!
Below are some general questions that I asked Richard, from Overheard In the Ward, if you have any questions feel free to post them in the comments and we will ask Richard to answer them for us!
#1 – What is Overheard In The Ward?
Overheard In The Ward (http://OverheardInTheWard.com) is a gathering place for the LDS community and friends to share funny conversations that they overheard in church, at home, or in their communities. People submit these funny quotes and they are posted for all to enjoy. New posts are published daily.
#2 – Give us a little history on how and why you came up with the idea for the website.
The idea for Overheard In The Ward happened one day at work. A bunch of LDS coworkers were discussing some funny conversations that happened at church. I said, “we should really write this stuff down. It’s hilarious.” Overheard In The Ward was live by the end of the day with its first quotes.
#3 – Do you have a goal of where you want your site to be in a year?
The goal for the next year is to spread the love and let people know about the site. We would really like to have Overheard In The Ward be one of the sites you visit everyday to get your daily chuckle.
#4 – Who is your ideal submitter?
Anyone can contribute to Overheard In The Ward. We have submissions from all over the world, all ages, and callings. However, based on the submissions we receive, the most frequent submitters are those that serve in the primary. Kids still say the funniest things don’t they?
#5 – What features have most visitors used or liked the most (either from you hearing about it, or from your stats)?
The ability to submit a quote is by far the most used feature. Some days we are inundated and love it. The ability to rate quotes and see which have been the “Most Recently Loved Quotes” has also been a favorite.
#6 – What are the features that you think are most valuable to those who visit?
Visitors love the fact that we post almost every day. We have visitors as far away as Saudi Arabia that visit the site daily. Who knew? It’s fun to see the LDS community spread across the world.
#7 – What are the features that you think are most valuable to those who submit stories?
I’ve received several people who enjoy seeing their submissions posted. It’s a fun little boost to see something you’ve contributed posted for thousands of people to enjoy.
#8 – What is the funniest story you have had submitted?
There have been several really good ones. I’ve found that different submissions tickle each person differently. One of my favorite recent submissions was this one…
Today’s Sharing Time Will Be Rated R
Primary President during Sharing Time: Okay, boys and girls… What do you think it means when it says ‘I will not use crude words’?
Eight-year-old jumping up and down and raising his hand: Oooo! That like means like when some people say BAD words that you shouldn’t say. Instead you should just say ‘blank’ or ‘bleep’. Like, Oh my bleeping bleep!, or bleep bleep you bleep! or blank you blanking blank, or mother blanker.

#9 – What age of quotee have you found to be the funniest?
Age… Hmm… good question. I rarely know how old someone is when they submit a quote. Of those that I know or visited their blogs, I would say the most common submitter is female between 20 and 40.
#10 – What are some of your future plans for Overheard In The Ward?
Next on tap is a way to allow people to sign up for a daily/weekly e-mail or texts with the latest quotes. Make it a little easier for people to get their daily dose.
